| -- Saturday, August 29th, 2009 Results -- "Hot AZ Night Tournament" There may have been some arguments over who was in charge over on the women's courts, which added to the heat of a really hot night tourney. 36 teams, 2 divisions, 1 great night that lasted until 4 in the morning. Even at that late hour, we had a great crowd that stuck around until the end, with a final Men's match that took three games to decide. | -- Saturday May 23rd, 2009 Tournament Results -- "Desert Zone Championships" Saturday could not have been better weather, overcast morning, cool breeze, is this summer in AZ? Sunday answered that question with some serious AZ heat. This weekend saw the unveiling of the new AVP/Barefoot Wine nets as well as the new AZBVA Beach Towels, seen in the prize photos on the results page. Brian Post's death-defying digs carried him into the finals and a close 2nd place finish in the Men's Open, see all the finishers on the results page. | -- Saturday April 25th, 2009 Tournament Results -- "Best of the West' Tourney" So we tried the new Tempe courts, and were amazed at how gorgeous the setting was. Ahhh, that is beach volleyball as we know it. Soft sand next to water, a bike path leading spectators courtside, grilling up burgers and polish sausages with music piping on the PA.... And of course, a single port-a-potty bathroom, stray balls forcing people into the sewer-like water, and almost being arrested for driving where we shouldn't (see Men's winner pic) :-). | -- Saturday April 4th, 2009 Tournament Results -- "Easter 'Volley Bunny' Tourney" Ahhh, the hippity hop of a tourney with bunny ears involved. More interesting when you consider the other, how should we say - bunnies - playing softball that day, we'll leave it at that. But it did lead to this fun dare at the end of the day --> click here. | -- Sunday February 15th, 2009 Tournament Results -- "St. Valentine's 'Volley Love' Tourney" Sunday saw the biggest Co-Ed tourney in the history of Arizona, 36 teams, lots of love and love lost, and a very exciting final that saw Matt Vanzant and Abra Amwake just dominate as they did all day. Everyone who saw what Matt did all day realize how big a force he is turning into, wow! | -- Saturday January 31st, 2009 Tournament Results -- "FBR Golf Open "Our Balls Are Bigger" Tourney" Well, that was interesting. A few firsts in that tourney, if you were there you will be aware of what happened, if you were not you missed controversy and player ejections, an AZBVA first and hopefully last of that situation, we'll leave it at that. As for the court action, the underdogs rose up everywhere to assert themselves as the #10 seed won the Men's Open and the #8 seed in the Women's Open took home the gold. | -- Saturday January 17th, 2009 Tournament Results -- "MLK King of Kings Tourney" A new King and Queen were crowned, and once again many top seeds found themselves having a tough time with the format. Nothing shakes up the mix like a good KOB, which we love starting the year with to get people trying out some new partnerships - Like T-Hig partnering with Potocki Jr. in the semifinals, or Dana Camacho teaming with Brian Post - some fun matchups you wouldn't get to see otherwise. We once again had great luck with the weather, probably one of the most perfect days we have had ever, and seeing some of the top seeds in Men's and Women's get dropped to the A/B after round 1 made for a very interesting day. | -- Saturday January 19th, 2008 Tournament Results -- "All Hail the King" Beautiful sunny Januarys are the reason we play in Phoenix. Wow, what a gorgeous day. And probably the most fun tournament we have ever put on. 48 players in all, 32 Men and 16 Women competing for the King and Queen spots, playing round robin with the other players. After the sand settled and well before the sun set (which is a rarity in itself), Tim Higgins walked away the King and Lindsey Schultz the Queen. | -- Saturday December 8th, 2007 Tournament Results -- After showing up to see our courts turned into a lake with that Friday rain, what a morning we had to get those courts ready for action on Saturday to play. The rain made a mess of things, but thanks to all the hard work of Posty, Rico & Patty, John Nace, Chris Rooslid, Tom Witt, Emy Kats, Mike Krueger & all his VL staff, and the countless other players who chipped in (I know I am not naming a bunch of you) we were able to make that place rock with only an hour and a half delay. Thanks everyone for making that happen, by the end of the day the place was so nice you would have no clue how it looked at 6:30 that morning. | -- Saturday November 3rd, 2007 Tournament Results -- 50 teams!!! Another AZBVA record broken! 45 New AVPNext members signed up, and 1/2 the courts were needed just to handle all the Women's teams that showed up, 18 Women's teams in all. Wow! The sponsors really came through big in this tournament and the prizes were great, as well as all the free Smart Water, VitaWater, and 180 Energy Drinks enjoyed by the players all day. -- Saturday April 28th 3rd, 2007 Tournament Results -- The Arizona Volleyball sand doubles tournament on Saturday, April 28th, 2007 went great. Thanks to all the teams that participated. The Men's Open Semifinals got interesting as the dust storm hit and turned it into a comedy at certain points, but by the finals things returned to normal. Also normal was Rico winning.
